After a very successful youth camp in the morning. We all, Israel and Turkey, headed together on one bus to Ashkelon Stadium to play our 2nd annual friendly between the two national teams. Israel came to Istanbul, Turkey on June 15 2012 and won the first annual 13-9. This year Israel scored 13 once again but we were only able to put 6 in the cage. Despite our second loss to Israel, I am forever proud of my boys.
The Turkey National team comprised of mostly 16-year-olds with roughly 2 years of lacrosse experience and very little actual game play. They stood firm and tall against Israel, who is comprised mostly of guys in their early twenties who have 10 plus years experience and most of them play ball either formerly or currently in NCAA Division I through III. My Turkish players learned a lot from the Israeli players during this game and also the entire trip.
Turkey and Israel decided in 2012 to play each other every year and traveling to each other’s nations every other year. The 2014 game will be in Denver, Co right before the FIL World Lacrosse Championships at the University of Denver.
